Upperclassmen Application and Room Selection
The upperclassmen application will open on November 20, 2023. Students can sign their housing contracts and create their roommate groups. The roommate group MUST be verified before January 22, 2024, for the group leader to be able to pull the group into available rooms during room selection.
Continuing residents have the option to self-select their room for Academic Year 2024-2025. During the room selection timeline, students will be able to log into the Housing Portal and select their specific room for the upcoming year. No more waiting for the summer to find out your room. You will be able to choose what building, floor, and bed space you want for the next year.

Roommate Group FAQs
Roommates: Upperclassmen can create preferred roommate groups in the housing portal prior to room self-selection. If there are available rooms in the apartment you choose, you can place friends from your preferred roommate group into those available spaces. It is the group leader's responsibility to assign the group members. Being in a roommate group does not guarantee you to be roommates and does not guarantee you a certain room type. You should discuss with your roommate group and group leader about which room types you want. Note that different room types have different semester rates. Click here to view housing rates for 2024 - 2025.
- What is a roommate group? A roommate group is a group of students that can select their room spaces all at once within a single unit. All group members must qualify for apartment complex or the booking will be cancelled.
- How do I verify my roommate group? Your group leader will create a roommate group with a name and password. The leader should share the group name and password with their preferred roommates. Once all of the roommates have been added to the roommate group, the group leader should log back into the Housing Portal to verify the group on the roommate group page of the application. Do not verify the roommate group until your preferred roommate has joined – this closes the group and prevents anyone else from joining it. The group must be verified to be able to be pulled into an apartment/suite in room selection.
- Who selects the room spaces for the group members? The group leader selects their own space, as well as any other group members during room selection from January 22 - February 16, 2024.
- What if I want to book my own room space, but I'm not the group leader? You can still book your own bed space, but you won't be able to book any of your group members. You will most likely want to leave your roommate group if you decide to book yourself a space.
- Can the leader book a space now and come back to book the rest of their roommate group later? No, all members of the roommate group must be booked at the same time.
- Do I have to join a roommate group before I can select my space? No! Roommate groups are completely optional. If you do not choose your roommates, you will be assigned a roommate through the room selection process or by our assignments team.
Renewal and Room Selection FAQs
Online Room Selection is a self-assigning process. Much like choosing an airplane or concert seat, you will be able to select your own bed from a list of available spaces via your online application.
-
What if I cannot choose my preferred room type?
- Room self-selection is designed to only allow students to pick rooms they are eligible for. If you are not seeing your preferred room type, it means you are either not eligible for that type or there are no more rooms available in that type. Try adjusting your filters to see available rooms. Continue to check our inventory of rooms and you may edit your room if needed.
-
What if I don’t see any room types that I want?
- During the room selection period, room options can fluctuate as residents find their preferred spaces.
-
What if I cannot find enough open spaces in an apartment/room for me and my roommates?
- Continue to check the housing portal for available apartments that can fit your entire roommate group.
-
How do I select a room if I have a scholarship?
- University awarded scholarship recipients will be able to self-select rooms in Huger Hall and Agnes Edwards Hall. There are limited number of Legacy Park spaces reserved for scholarship students each year. Those assignments are based on the original housing application completion date. You can opt in to this standby list after you continue to the next page.
-
Can I change my room selection?
- During the room selection time (January 22 - February 16, 2024), you may return to the housing application to select a different room* depending on availability. This will not move the entire roommate group, just the student that is changing their room selection. After room selection is over, you will have to submit a room change request.
- After room selection (after February 16, 2024), you must submite a room change request. Room change requests can be submitted at any time but the Housing Office pauses room changes around move in and through the first two weeks of the semester to allow for updates to the roster after move in.
-
How can I change my roommate?
- During room selection (January 22 - February 16, 2024), you can return to the housing application and select a different room depending on availability.
- After room selection (February 16, 2024), you should submit a room change request and include the name and ULID of the requested roommate. The Housing Office makes every effort to honor all of the student's requests.
-
What do I do if I miss the room selection time?
- For students who apply after February 16, 2024, they will have to choose room type preferences and then be assigned by our team.
*Same room renewals cannot change their room selection.
Rooms or apartments may be subject to reassignment. University Housing has final discretion to alter a student’s selected space in order to consolidate available vacancies to facilitate the self-selection process for other students. Every effort will be made to identify an assignment similar (same room type and/or residence hall) to what the student selected during the Room Selection process.
