Current Resident Housing Applications

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our Current Resident Housing Application later this month! We’re excited to announce the launch of the Current Resident Housing Application for Academic Year 2025–2026! Our current residents have first access to secure housing for the next academic year and then the application will open to new residents and transfer students.

Note that room selection is only available for our on-campus apartment spaces. Spaces in our residence halls will be assigned by our office based on room preferences selected.

To help navigate the process, we’ve provided a detailed timeline and instructions for renewal and room selection below. Please review them carefully to ensure a smooth experience.

Renew Your Contract and Create Roommate Groups
  • Current campus residents in our apartments and residence halls can renew their housing contract, create and verify roommate groups with other continuing residents, and indicate room preferences for the upcoming year.
  • All residents will select preferences on the application, even if they plan to self-select an apartment.
  • Important:
    • Students wishing to stay in a residential hall will not participate in the self-selection process. Instead, our office will assign residential hall spaces based on selected preferences.
    • Verified groups must be completed at this stage to participate in self-selection.
    • Deadline to verify a roommate group is May 1, 2025, for all students.

Room Selection (Apartments Only)
  • Remaining apartment spaces will be available for continuing residents to select.
  • If you are part of a verified roommate group, you will have the ability to pull your group into available apartment spaces. All members of the roommate group must be eligible for the selected apartment community.
  • Availability may be limited due to the number of current residents renewing their contracts. Full apartments are unlikely to remain at this stage.
  • Once all apartments have been selected, room selection will be closed and applicants will go back to selecting room preferences and our office will assign students if rooms become available.

University Housing has final discretion to alter a student’s selected space in order to consolidate available vacancies to facilitate the room selection process for other students.

Roommate Group FAQs

What is a roommate group?

  • A roommate group is a group of students who plan to select their room spaces together within a single apartment unit. All group members must meet eligibility requirements for the apartment complex, or the booking will be canceled.

How do I create and verify my roommate group?

  1. Group Creation: The group leader creates a roommate group with a unique name and password in the Housing Portal.
  2. Adding Members: The leader shares the group name and password with their preferred roommates, who then join the group.
  3. Verification: Once all roommates have joined, the leader must log back into the Housing Portal to verify the group on the roommate group page. Only verify the group after all preferred members have joined. Verifying the group closes it, preventing additional members from joining.
  4. Verified Groups: Only verified groups can be pulled into an apartment during room selection.

Who selects the room spaces for the group members?

  • The group leader selects their own space and assigns spaces to the other group members during room selection.

Can I book my own space if I’m not the group leader?

  • Yes, you can book your own space independently. However:
    • You won’t be able to book spaces for other group members.
    • If you decide to book independently, you may want to leave your roommate group.

Can the group leader book some spaces now and return later to book the rest?

  • No. All members of the roommate group must be booked at the same time during room selection.

Do I need to join a roommate group to select my space?

  • No, joining a roommate group is optional. If you don’t join one:
  • You can select your own bed space independently during room selection.
  • You will be able to see other students already assigned to the apartment before selecting your space.
  • If you don’t select a space during room selection, our assignments team will place you based on your preferences and roommate profile answers.

Additional Tips for Roommate Groups

  • Room Types and Rates: Discuss room types with your group and note that different types have different semester rates. Click here to view housing rates for 2025–2026.
  • Being in a roommate group does not guarantee placement with your preferred roommates or in a specific room type.

Renewal and Room Selection FAQs

What is Online Room Selection?

  • Online Room Selection is a self-assigning process, similar to selecting a seat for an airplane or concert. Through your online application, you’ll be able to view a list of available spaces and choose your own bed.

What if I cannot choose my preferred room type?

  • Room selection only allows students to select rooms they are eligible for. If you don’t see your preferred room type:
    • It may not be available due to high demand.
    • Adjust your filters to see other available rooms.
    • Continue checking the housing portal as availability may change.

What if I don’t see any room types that I want?

  • Room options fluctuate during the selection period as residents choose their spaces. If your preferred type isn’t available, it’s likely fully booked. We recommend:
    • Selecting an available room to ensure you secure on-campus housing.
    • Keep in mind that declining to choose a space could result in no campus housing being available to you.

What if I cannot find enough open spaces in an apartment for my roommate group?

  • While we encourage you to monitor the housing portal for apartments with enough available spaces for your group, we cannot guarantee placement for all group members in the same unit. If space is unavailable, group members may need to select spaces in different apartments.

How do I select a room if I have a scholarship?

  • Scholarship recipients can renew contracts starting February 10, 2025, create roommate groups, and select room preferences.
  • Legacy Park: Limited to no availability is expected. Adding Legacy Park to your preferences places you on the Legacy Park Scholarship Waitlist. Spaces, if available, will be offered in order of original housing application dates.
  • The Housing Office will assign scholarship students after room selection closes.

Can I change my room selection?

  • You may change your selection during the room selection period if spaces are available.
  • Changing your selection only affects your own booking, not your entire roommate group.
  • After the selection period ends, you can submit a room change request, though:
    • Requests are not guaranteed.
    • The Housing Office pauses room changes around move-in and for the first two weeks of the semester to finalize rosters.

How can I change my roommate?

  • During room selection: You can choose a different room with a new roommate, depending on availability.
  • After room selection: Submit a room change request with the name and ULID of the requested roommate. The Housing Office will try to honor requests based on availability.

What do I do if I miss the room selection time?

  • If you miss the selection window, you’ll need to submit your room type preferences. The Housing Office will then assign you a space based on your preferences and availability.

New Residents and Transfer Students Housing Applications

Housing Application Opens for all Continuing Students (all classifications except incoming first-time freshmen)
  • If there are still available apartment spaces, we will open room selection to new residents and transfer students. If there is no more availability in our apartments for room selection, then new applications will just fill out room preferences and our office will assigned based on availability.
